Well, we finally are ready to take our gumpaste roses to fully open from open rose (the fourth stage). In the spray above I have one bud, 2 partially open roses, 4 open roses, and 3 fully open roses. To achieve a realistic fully open rose I will show you how to wire the last 7 to 9 petals on your open rose. I have found by wiring the petals the rose is not only a realistic, but is stronger and easier to handle. Generally, I would have petal dusted the rose after the wired petals were added before the calyx, however due to the deep intense colour of the the Black Magic Rose I petal dusted as each stage was completed.
An open rose is quite pretty, it is not necessary to take your rose to this final stage of fully open, but it does take your spray from charming to bewitching and beautiful.

Both sprays are attractive, but the latter spray has a WOW factor! Imagine the second spray on a late fall wedding cake.

For supplies
For the wired petals you will need a groove board and about 15 plastic teaspoons. You will only need 7 to 9 wired petals, but I like to create a few extra petals in case there is breakage.
You might find it helpful to petal dust the wire petals about 30 minutes after you have placed them on the spoons. The petals will still be pliable and if you need to slightly adjust the petals you will be able to.
Have all your materials and equipment ready.
